Friday Focus Part 2

Just sneaking in another card to round off this bumper week of posting. This one is for CAS(E) this 

Sketch and a really different sort of sketch that had my head buzzing.

Although it's a very simple sketch I felt it was very bold at the same time. So I chose some bold in your face colours accented with a strong black sentiment strip. Hope you like it!

Originally I'd planned to use the die cut sentiment across the colour join, but I was taken by the negative strip and went with that instead.

The card was then finished off with some black splatters and scattered sequins.

Friday Focus

As I've posted six days in a row I thought I'd complete the week to make it seven! So I set too and made this little card for the current challenge at CASology.

And don't you just love chocolate mini eggs in an Easter nest? Brings back lots of sticky delicious moments from school days.

And a closer look at that little chick guarding those eggs.

CAS Colours & Sketches #113

The last CAS Colours & Sketches challenge for February. How quickly time flies! And how soon it will be March and my first stint as hostess to the challenges - scary!

So this week it's a gem of a sketch and right in my comfort zone. My card almost made itself!

So I started by stamping and hand cutting the flower and then found a scrap of black spotty card for the banner. I love the black against the lilac.

I kept the colour scheme CAS by using a piece of embossed white card for the background square. I thought the dots picked up on the black card and I rounded the corners to contrast with the banner spikes.

A coil of black twine just added a bit of balance. And I stamped the sentiment onto white card before adhering to the black banner.

Wednesday Words

A busy week for me blogwise, think this is the fifth day in a row that I've posted. Today it's back to scrapbooking and I've used the last February sketch from Let's Get Sketchy.

And I decided to use it for a milestone page about my gorgeous new grandson.

I love the new Simple Stories I AM collection and thought it was just so appropriate to my theme. The colours from the photo and the background paper were the influence for my colours.

I stuck pretty close to the sketch and used two of the medium circles for journalling repeating 'I am' at the beginning of each statement. I inked the edges of these two circles to give them more definition.

The star near the photo spot on the sketch became a heart and I stamped the date above the small rectangle at the bottom left of the page. I forgot to change the year to 2015 so the candi dot is there to hide my mistake.

Tuesday Talk

The theme this week at Less is More is WINGS.

And as I have a child's birthday coming up soon I went searching for something suitable at my favourite digi store - www.digistampboutique.co.uk

I was so taken by this card that I used it as my inspiration for my card. And I love the crisp clean look of both the stamp and the layout, so I'm thinking I might be using this layout again.

I coloured the image with promarkers and flexmarkers matching the main colour to the spotty card and then adding a couple of accent colours. The sentiment is part of the digi set.

Monday Moments

It's a birthday challenge at Uniko Studios at the moment - to celebrate their third birthday.

And I was influenced by the weather and went super bright and sunny - yes we actually had some sunshine last week in the UK!

I used the gorgeous new Beautiful Blooms II and was inspired by Jennifer McGuire's recent post here.

After many tries I finally discovered the easist way for me to line up the triple layer stamps was to start with the outline, then the solid, then the detail stamp, using the two petals shaped like the top of a heart - on the right of my stamping - to position each layer. Still a bit of a work in progress as you can probably see in the close up!

Sunday Scrapping

Another page using the sketches at Let's Get Sketchy. Today it's their first February sketch and maybe I have used them all in reverse order, but I've got there!

And another dent made in my Christmas photos. This one is such a very precious memory for me and just about sums up all that is magical about Christmas with kids. Amazingly the elf's name was chosen before any of us knew what the name of my new grandson was going to be, so you can imagine our surprise when he was born and his name was announced. Yep! Definitely some magic at work there!

I changed the clouds from the sketch into little journalling blocks and the birds into stars. And I added some word strips from my newly arrived Say Cheese II to the photo - I had so much to say about this moment!

Saturday Slot

At the end of each year's scrapbook album I always make a page to sum up the year. And 2014 was a big year for my family and I wasn't sure how to show this until I saw this sketch at Let's Get Sketchy.

 

I started with a kraft background paper and built up the elements using bits from Simple Stories Say Cheese - currently my favourite collection.

I really enjoyed making the title cluster and used thickers, alphas and stickers round a trimmed down page element. In fact I chopped up one 12 x 12 sheet quite a bit and pieced it over the page to get the look I wanted.

I used a Tim Holtz die to cut the splat and added a couple of stickers on top. The yellow star is repeated two more times on the page - that magic frame of three.

And then came that moment when I liked how it looked and stuck everything down only to discover I'd forgotten that circular part of the sketch. I'd thought to write the months of the year separated by some bits of splat - a great idea but sadly I'd forgotten.  And I really tried to embrace this imperfection, but off it all came, the circle was added and then I was happy.

CAS Colours & Sketches #112

How did you get on with last week's CAS Colours & Sketches challenge? I'm very impressed with all the entries!

This week it's a colour combo for you to try out.

And these colours had me thinking male cards again - always a plus for me!  I really wanted to use the stripy frame stamped in blue and that was my starting point.

I like how a vertical strip balances out the circular frame, so I set to work stamping some different sized stars using all three of the colours.

Once I'd attached the strip and the frame, using pads, I felt the card just needed a little something else. So I stamped and die cut a trio of orange stars, mounted them onto pads and played around with placement until I was happy.

Wednesday Words

For today's share I used a sketch from Let's Get Sketchy.  I'm a bit late to the party as this super sketch is their third for February - going to check out one and two next!

 

And time to have another bash at those Christmas photos. I couldn't resist this paper with it's repeated message - so relevant to my grandsons! I'm so enjoying looking at the intense concentration on their faces as they prepare their gifts for Santa.

The speech bubble sticker on the banners had this tiny red heart, so I decided to pick up on this and frame the photos and journalling with two more. Always love this trio triangular effect. Oh and the younger of the two told me very seriously that a speech bubble means someone is speaking - bless!

For the circular element I used two circle dies inside each other to make a frame and then hand cut into it several times to make it thin and wispy.

Tuesday Talk

It's one layer week at Less is More and the theme is LOVE. And at Addicted to CAS the codeword is MASK.

    

I knew I had a Lavinia quote stamp about magic and love and whilst rooting through my box I fell in love all over again with the Lavinia stamps. So that's what I went with for these challenges.

I used a Spellbinder circular die to make a mask and then placed a smaller die inside it to get the double look I was after. I then brushed over with a couple of inks before stamping the images and sentiment.

A generous covering of Wink of Stella was added to all the stars.

AAA Cards Game #33

So did you enjoy Valentine's Day? Judging from the massive response to our last challenge at AAA Cards you certainly intended to!

Are you ready to move on? Well Victoria has come up with another wonderful inspiration image for the next challenge at AAA Cards, so loved up or not be sure to join in!

Orange is the most favourite colour of my oldest grandson and given free rein he'd dress in orange from head to foot! Obviously he was very much in mind when I made this card:

The monster is a digi image from Digi Stamp Boutique and I also coloured him on the computer - a new technique for me.

I die cut a stitched rectangle and then stamped the sentiment. I love the spotty font of the Happy and the contrast of the smaller blocked birthday.
